Dinan

Belted with 3km battlements, the town of Dinan and its 14th century castle dominate the river La Rance.
Below, the little marina constitutes the departure of beautiful rides along the estuary, while up there, corbelled houses complete the medevial town's visit.

Dive back in the Middle Ages atmosphere while traveling through the Jerzual steep street. Half-timbered houses testify of the city's past wealth. From the 14th to the 18th centuries, it was full of weavers and tanners. Today, it is an unavoidable step if you pass by Dinan. You will like to stroll and dream in front of glass blowers's and gilders on wood workshops.

The visit continues, place des Cordeliers and des Merciers. Here, styles are mixing between each other. You can find half-timbered houses from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries at the same place. Not so far, constructed in the 12th century, the Basilica Saint-Sauveur mix Byzantine, Persian and Roman influences. Its particularity is the fact that this building is still unfinished.

Child of the country, Bertrand du Guesclin stands out, during the Hundred Years War by releasing Normandy and Brittany. His heart rests in the Basilica Saint-Sauveur. But an other figure returned the town famous. It is Anne de Bretagne who chose, in the 15th century, to retire herself after her husband's death, the king Charles VIII.

At the marina's departure, Rance's riverbanks offer many pleasant rides. Follow the estuary towards the direction of Taden. The village conserved ancient mansions and a beautiful manor from the 16th century. The ride can continue by the ancient towpath.
